How to make your computer boot up faster
By CyberJoe
Have you ever pushed the power button on your computer and sat there for what seems like forever? Did you wonder why it is taking so long to boot up? When you turn on your computer, there are many programs that are told by Windows to load in the background. You may never use these or even know about them. There is a way to remedy that situation. There is a application you can run to remove these unneeded programs from the start up process, The application is called MSCONFIG.EXE.
In order to use this program, you need to be logged in to your user account. You will need to click on START then click on RUN and ty[e in MSCONFIG.EXE and click on OK. You will see a small window open with several tabs. Once the window is open, click on STARTUP. There will be a long list of programs in this tab. These are all the programs loading when you turn on your computer. If you look in the lower right corner of your task bar next to the time clock, you will see an icon for each of these that is running in the background. The more icons you see the more RAM memory that is being used, and in turn, slowing down your computer. As you go down the list, click on the check next to each item to remove it from the start up process. Make sure not to uncheck your anti-virus software, as this is one program that you do want to keep running at all times.
Once you are done removing check marks, click on ok at the bottom. A message will pop up asking to restart computer or exit without restart. You will click on Restart. Your computer will reboot itself and you will see a significantly faster boot up time. There will also be a lot less icons in your taskbar next to the time clock
